Mosquitoes and Bedbugs are two intruding insects in the community. Mosquitoes are talked about the most because they are disease carriers, specifically the female anopheles mosquito and Aedes mosquito. They cause malaria and yellow fever, respectively. Mosquitos of all sorts can be seen in stagnant, unkempt environments, the eggs are usually in marshes, ponds, lakes, children’s pools, the inside of tires, birdbaths and other containers with shallow water. The environments mosquitoes breed in can be obvious, though they can also be seen in some tidy environments.
Bedbugs are reddish brown and roughly the size of an apple seed. Bed bugs can basically be found anywhere, as the name implies. They are most commonly found in beds. It could be at home, hospital, or hotel. It can be in your car seat, pouch, and books. They can come from other infested areas or from used furniture. They can hitch a ride in luggage, purses, backpacks, or other items placed on soft or upholstered surfaces. They can travel between rooms in multi-unit buildings, such as apartment complexes and hotels. Bedbugs are seldomly seen. Most people who get bitten always assume they were bitten by mosquitos or other insects.
How can we tell the difference between mosquito and bedbug bites?
Appearance
Well, first thing first, the appearance. Mosquito bites are small, raised bumps on the skin; they come from a female anopheles mosquito feeding on the blood. These bites can appear in different forms; they can be flat, raised or round, but it also depends on what part of the body where you’ve been bitten. These may appear single in some parts of the body. Mosquito bites are unlike any other insect bite, of all the insects, mosquitos don’t have the strongest and most painful bites. In some cases, you can be bitten by a mosquito and not feel the pain.
BedBug bites are like any other insect bite. In this case, BedBug bites appear in clusters. These bites are very itchy and smaller. On white skin, the bites usually appear red. On dark skin, they can look faint-pink or purplish and turn deep brown the longer they remain on the skin. Bedbug bites can appear anywhere on the skin.
Nature
A single bed bug can cause more damage. When they infest your bed, you’ll need a pest controller for professional help. It’ll be more difficult to control bed bugs when you don’t know where they are exactly, they are seldomly seen. When do bedbugs bite? They can bite at anytime, but the bugs can bite several times in a night to become full, but only feed about once every one or two weeks. People that have only small numbers of the bugs in their homes may not experience new bites every night.
Mosquitoes are quite similar to bugs in the sense that a single female anopheles mosquito can feed on blood until she’s fully fed. Now you may be asking, is blood what mosquitos feed on? Well, not exactly. Mosquitoes also enjoy feeding on plant nectar like juices from flowers and fruits, plant sap, honeydew, and other fluids from plants. Mosquitoes are most active during the early morning hours before the sun has fully come up and the air temperature isn’t as hot. Mosquitoes find daylight to be deadly, as direct sunlight can dehydrate them. They are also most active during the late hours, commonly in areas where they breed.
Diseases Caused
As we all know, malaria is carried by the female anopheles mosquito and caused by protozoa of the genus Plasmodium. Now just one bite from an infected mosquito will cause malaria. Most people can get more bites from a mosquito and not get infected with malaria, but in some cases, a single bite from an infected mosquito can cause harm. Over the years, the World Health Organization and its partners have done everything possible to ensure that these regions receive adequate malaria treatment. Bed bugs don’t cause any illness or disease, and yes, they feed solely on blood. Although the common bed bug (Cimex lectularius) prefers feeding on humans, it will also bite other warm-blooded animals, including dogs, cats, birds, and rodents.
