Watery Discharge Feels Like I Peed Myself: 3 Basic Causes

Vaginal watery discharge is normal, though it varies from person to person as it could be seen as a normal process in some women but unusual in others. Vaginal discharge can signify a lot of things. The colour and consistency of the discharge can be key indicators of your vaginal health.

Vaginal discharge works a bit like the moisture in your mouth — it keeps things from drying out, keeps bad bacteria at bay, and while you produce more under certain conditions (so, when you’re ready to eat, you salivate, when you get turned on, you get wet), you are always producing some. If you weren’t, things would be dry and painful and prone to infections and irritations.

You might also see a bit more discharge at certain points in your cycle, like when you’re ovulating or right before your period, or if you have a minor bit of irritation (like if you wore tight jeans all day and things got a bit hot and sweaty).

The only time discharge is a problem is if it’s abnormal for your body—if it’s suddenly changed colour (like appearing yellow or brown) or consistency (going lumpy or chunky, like cottage cheese), or if it has a really bad smell (like a fishy or rotting odour). All those can be signs of infection or other health problems.

But daily discharge that’s anywhere from clear and runny to white and sticky (depending on where you are in your cycle) is completely normal. It is also slightly acidic in pH (the natural state for your vagina, to keep bad bacteria in check), so it’s perfectly normal for it to slightly stain or bleach your underwear over time.

“Watery Discharge Feels Like I Peed Myself” Here Are The 3 Major Causes

A person can get watery discharges that feel like they peed themselves when,

They are pregnant

It is generally normal to have more than one discharge during pregnancy. It is a normal process that helps prevent any sort of infection. The discharge prevents infections from travelling from the vagina to the womb. The foetus will be seriously affected if there isn’t enough vaginal discharge. The discharge increases even further towards the end of the pregnancy. In the last week or so of pregnancy, it may contain streaks of sticky, jelly-like pink mucus.

They are taking birth control pills

Certain hormonal contraceptives, such as oral birth control pills containing oestrogen and progesterone, can thicken cervical mucus, particularly because of the hormones they contain. Therefore, it is quite common for women who take the pill to have a whitish vaginal discharge quite consistently throughout the month.

Sexually active

It is normal for a sexually active woman to have discharges. Sexual excitement and arousal would cause white discharge. When a woman is sexually aroused, the vagibal fluid becomes noticeable because it thickens and increases.

These are three of the main things that can cause watery discharges. If the cause of the watery discharge is unknown, then you’ll have to consult your healthcare provider to run a diagnosis as it could actually be a sexually transmitted disease. Diseases like bacterial vaginosis, candida, trichomoniasis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and genital herpes might actually be at hand. If a person suspects that they have any of the conditions listed above, they should seek prompt medical treatment.
